Around the time this video was made I had a debate with a co-worker, who disagreed with my belief that girls deserved exactly the same chances in life as boys. He told me it was a waste because ‘girls just get married in the end’. Well first off which parent doesn’t want the best for their child boy or girl? Secondly what type of lunatic discounts the contributions of 50% of the population? If I’m ill I want the best Doctor regardless of gender, religion, age, race… well you get the picture. Thirdly just because a woman chooses to get married doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve the same chances as their male counterparts. Do you ever look back on a critical moment and think I wish I’d said… All those years ago I was pretty dumb struck by this other father’s position (yes he was, and still is, a father of 2 daughters). But now I have answers… BBC 100 World’s Most Influential Women World Guides Girl Leaders National Eating Disorders Association Ambassador Body positivity and self-care advocate Successful international model Aerie Real Global role model Champion of unretouched photography Speaker at schools in the USA and UK, at Harvard and a raft of other Universities, and TEDx Guest on national TV and radio in the US and the UK On the cover of national magazines, and appeared in too many newspapers to mention All round sportsperson, national swimmer, and awarded 5 different school scholarships Member of the national youth theatre 4m+ and counting followers on social media from across the globe Dog lover, hand bag expert, and shoe nut A destroyer of gym work outs and desserts Daddy’s girl! Those aren’t the reasons girls need the same chances as boys – those are what happen when you give girls the same chances as boys. So why did my daughter deserve the same chances as boys her age? Because every child deserves the same chances assh*le! … and because I love her because she’s my daughter! Happy International Women’s day @iskra! I love you x @ St Mary and All Saints' Church, Kidderminster
